What to Expect from the First Session
The first session is a chance for us to get to know each other, and for me to start to learn your story; we will talk through what brings you to therapy, your background, and what you hope to get out of the process. There's no pressure to have it all mapped out. I’m here to help support the process so you feel comfortable.
Frequently Asked Questions:
Is Online Psychotherapy Effective for Adults? Yes, online therapy is well-supported as an effective option for adults, and for many people it removes real barriers: no commute, more flexibility around work and family schedules, and the ability to have sessions from a space where you already feel at ease.
How do I know if I need therapy, or if I should just try to manage things on my own? There's no single sign that means you "need" therapy. Some people attend therapy when their daily functioning is significantly impaired, while others benefit from therapy when they want to better understand themselves, improve their relationships or their overall well-being, or are simply curious what a therapeutic process could look like. You don't need to be in crisis to benefit from therapy.
What if I'm not sure what I want to work on? That's a common starting point, and it's okay. Part of our work together will be to figure that out. I will support you with more guidance, if that’s something that can be helpful.
What happens in the free consultation? We will have about 15 minutes to discuss your main concerns or reason to come to therapy, and what your goals for psychotherapy are. I will also share my approach, so that we end the conversation knowing if we are the right fit to work together and, if so, what the next steps are.
Wondering whether online psychotherapy is the right fit for you? I'd be happy to answer your questions and help you figure it out together.
