What to Expect from the First Session

The first appointment is typically with parents or caregivers. We'll talk through your concerns, your child's strengths and developmental history, and your goals for therapy. Depending on their age and the nature of the concerns, your child may join part or all of this first session.
From there, we'll build a treatment plan tailored to your child and family, and check in regularly to make sure therapy continues meeting your goals.

How Sessions Work

Therapy is collaborative, engaging, and adapted to your child's developmental stage. Depending on their needs, sessions may include conversation, online interactive activities, games, worksheets, and visual supports, all designed to help them learn about themselves and apply strategies to manage their symptoms and become the best version of themselves.

What Parents Can Expect to See

While every family's goals are different, many parents notice their child:

  • Feeling calmer and less overwhelmed by anxiety or stress

  • Managing emotions with fewer outbursts

  • Building confidence, self-esteem, and independence

  • Strengthening friendships and social skills

  • Coping more effectively with ADHD or OCD symptoms

  • Adjusting to family changes with greater resilience

  • Feeling happier, more secure, and more connected at home and school

Therapy isn't about changing who your child is; it's about helping them understand themselves, build on their strengths, and develop the tools to navigate life with confidence.

Frequently Asked Questions:

What age range do you work with? I currently work with children aged 9 and older, as this age is generally well-suited to the online therapy format. If you have a younger child, we can work on parent sessions to help improve their symptoms.

Do you work with parents? You know your child best, and you're an essential part of this process. Alongside your child's sessions, I offer regular parent consultations so we can discuss progress, answer questions, and build practical strategies you can use at home — keeping you informed and involved throughout.

Is online therapy effective for children? Research shows virtual therapy can be highly effective for school-aged children when sessions are adapted to their age and individual needs. Many children also feel more relaxed opening up in a familiar environment, which can make sessions more productive than an unfamiliar office setting. Moreover, some children benefit from not having to travel, especially if they have busy schedules.

What if my child doesn't want to talk or feels nervous about therapy? It's completely normal for kids to feel unsure at first. Sessions are paced to your child's comfort level, and we build trust gradually through activities and conversation. When they're not yet old enough for direct online therapy, I offer parent consultation sessions to support you in helping your child improve their functioning across life domains.

Wondering whether online therapy is the right fit for your child? I'd be happy to answer your questions and help you decide together.
